May 2009 Distribution Recap June 2, 2009

The May 2009 Distribution was amazing!  We had some fresh cucumbers donated to us which were made available to those picking up their orders this month.  They went pretty fast, too.

See the empty spaces on "the line"? This means we could use a few more volunteers. Hint, hint!

The cucumbers were almost gone by the time this picture was taken. We had a huge stack of them when we started! 🙂

Mrs. Rhonda played some hymns on her guitar during distribution.  It added some nice background music to the air.  Thanks, Mrs. Rhonda!

I'm checking an order. Mrs. Rhonda can be seen in the background. She was nice enough to play some hymns for us on her guitar. And is my hair really thinning that badly?!

We didn't get a closeup of Mrs. Rhonda, but there she is in the background playing away! Ignore my thinning hair, please. 🙂

For more picture, please click the Photos tab at the top of this blog site.  The photos there start with May’s pictures.

Thanks to all the volunteers that came out to lend a hand in any way, and those folks who came to pick up their orders.  It wouldn’t be possible without you all!

Orders are now being taken for the June 2009 Menu.  Take a peak at it by clicking the Menu tab at the top of this blog site.  Ordering will continue until Sunday, June 14th.

For those of you who are signed up for the monthly newsletter, it’s in the works right now and should be emailed out within a day or two.  Any of you who aren’t signed up, you’re invited to join the email list by clicking the button in the right hand column.

Typo on Events Flier – June 2009 May 31, 2009

Well, I found an error on my June 2009 Events Flier that was passed out with the Angel Food boxes yesterday…

The next to the last event announcement for no PM services was dated incorrectly.  The dates should have been Sunday, June 14th – Sunday, June 28th. For some reason, I got ahead of myself and typed July 28th (which is not a Sunday, anyway), sorry for the mistake.  I guess I’m going to have to fire my proof-reader…wait, that’s me…nevermind!  The correct information is listed on the Events page of this blog site.

“Angel” Delivers Easter Baskets & Food – Testimony from Another Host Site

I always share things of interest here locally, but this testimony from Manahawkin Methodist Church, another Angel Food host site, was in the newsletter I get every month from AFM headquarters.  It’s touching and a reminder that the Angel Food Ministry is so much bigger than just right here in Watson, Louisiana.

Throughout the year, we’ve been taking food to a needy family. In April my trunk was full and topped off with an Easter Dinner box and three Easter baskets. When I got to the house there was no answer at the door. Vehicles were in the driveway, so I began unloading the food on the porch. Two precious eyes were peeking through the blinds watching me. I waved and smiled each time I carried a box. When done, I waved again and left.

Later, a message from the mom explained that after three sleepless nights due to severe pain from surgery, she and her husband had collapsed into deep sleep just before I arrived.

When they awoke, their daughter rushed to say, “MOMMY, DADDY! AN ANGEL CAME TO OUR HOUSE! A LADY ANGEL!” I’ve been called a lot of things over the years, but never an angel! It made me cry.

If you aren’t involved in helping with Angel Food here in Watson, or in whatever community you’re in, I urge you to pray about it.  This is one of the greatest outreach ministries EVER! It’s truly a blessing to help reach out to the community in such a fun way.  I’ll start sharing comments I get from our host site visitors, from time to time, as well.

May Distribution Reminder May 29, 2009

I’m a little late in posting this, I know, it’s been a busy week for me…

Distribution is in the morning (Saturday, May 30th) from 7am until 9am.  If you ordered for May, remember to bring your receipt and boxes during the distribution times to pick up your order.

Volunteers for unloading the truck should be there by 3:50am and those wanting to volunteer to help with distribution should be there by 6:50am.  We should be cleaned up and finished by 9:30am.

We’ll also be taking orders for the June menu, which is available to view and/or download on the Menu tab at the top of this blog site.

We have a special treat for distribution tomorrow:  Mrs. Rhonda is going to be playing some hymns on her guitar!  I’m sure if any of you have the urge to sing along, she won’t mind at all!

See you tomorrow, bright and early!

April 2009 Distribution Held April 26, 2009

We held our April 2009 distribution on Saturday, April 25th from 7am until 9am.  The truck was there, waiting for us, at 4am, and we got started.

This distribution was special for me because it was our 1 year anniversary as a host site with Angel Food Ministries!  We also had a couple of other special things happen.

Mrs. Rhonda brought some stuffed animals of all shapes, types, and sizes to be given away during distribution.  These were a hit with kids and grown ups!  Thanks, Mrs. Rhonda!

The Denham Springs Relay for Life Event was held the night before and when they finished up bright and early Saturday morning, they brought bananas, granola bars, and Crystal Lite mix that ended up being extras so we could give those away during distribution, as well.  Thanks, guys, the bananas went in about 30 minutes!  The granola bars were all gone by the end of distribution and only a few Crystal Lite mixes were left.

The volunteers that came to help out with distribution were amazing, as usual.  It is astonishing how these folks just dig in and do whatever is necessary to make things run as smoothly as possible.  A special thanks from me to you for your dedication and hard work!  This could not happen without you all!

God has really taken the Angel Food Ministry at Live Oak Baptist Church and done some amazing things with it.  Expect some new and exciting things to appear during distribution over the next year.

Thanks to all of those who came out to help and to those who came to pick up their boxes.  I love you all, dearly!

If you aren’t participating in Angel Food, either by purchasing the boxes or volunteering, I encourage you to get in on it.  Either way, Angel Food will be a blessing to you!
